Candy and Cola

Candy and Cola are iconic figures from Relic Knights by Soda Pop.  There are so famous that other games companies have included them in completely unrelated games - we have Candy and Cola miniatures for Kingdom Death, for example.  Even in Relic Knights, Candy and Cola make several appearances and I actually have 3 different version of Candy.

This version was a Kickstarter bonus.  All the factions were given an "alternate universe" version of an existing character.  These were not normal part of the faction, this version is part of Cerci Speed Circuit and Candy is normally a Prismatic and they were all dressed as famous anime characters.  Initially, these were "cosplay characters" but by the time the game was released, they were called Darkspace characters and their studio colour schemes were altered a little from the anime originals, a copyright/licensing/trademark issue I guess.  Still, we all know who these guys are!

So here's the Darkspace Candy and Cola painted to match Street Fighter's Chun Li and Ryu.  This is a characteristic pose of Chun Li from Street Fighter, a popular video game.  Also Candy's abilities in Relic Knights match Chun Li's fighting style.  It's a really good copyright infringement crossover:

I am really pleased with little Cola, but Candy's face will need to be repainted.  Honestly, the sculpt is not great (it's a bit flat) and I am not a free hand painter.  Her sheer stockings defeated me too.  But they make a cute pair based up together.

Big Hair Day

My first mini of the new year is Rin Farrah, from Soda Pop.  She is part of my Cerci Speed Circuit crew.

I struggled with the paint scheme.  Generally, I don't like copying the studio colours and I already had a strongly orange mini in the crew, so I had two reasons for going my own way.  But the studio colours are great and I did not think I could do any better.  It's always a bad start knowing your colour scheme is not the best, even if you can pull of a perfect paint job.

Anyway, I came up with something in the orange region of the spectrum and I think she's just fine.  I'm not good at the flat black guns and she is very tiny, so some of the layering got covered over, but still I'm happy.

She's no Farrah trademark blonde, but that's still some big hair:

So I now have a 46 point Cerci crew.  Pretty close to 50, one of the standard sized games of Relic Knights.

Relic Knights Mini-Update

Did you see what I did there?

Just a quick update to show the Suicide Queen, a Questing Knight from my Cerci Speed Circuit battle force.  She's like a mini-boss for this biker gang.  I don't think this mini is for sale yet - I got it on Kickstarter and I have not seen it in there e-Shop.

As normal, not enough contrast!  I'll chant that 10 times before the next paint job.

Now I have a fully painted Cerci crew and I am one unit short for a Corsair force ... guess what I am painting next?

A Few Nights of Relic Knights Painting

Here are a couple more Relic Knights minis, from Soda Pop Miniatures.

Lug is large, and to be honest, not well cast.  I had trouble cleaning him up, which shows.  The large smooth surfaces need to be blended carefully.  My yellows has poor coverage and I needed several coats ... and for some reason the paint went really gritty.  Enough whining, take a look.

The small yellow crystal is a reminder that he is an Essence Initiate- the yellow power source in the game.  I like this pose.

The shading is not bad but he's a bit bland.  Anyway, he is another miniature painted.

Rollo was fun to do, but he is tiny.  The large multicoloured crystal shows he's an Esper Master.  Both Rollo and Lug are part of the Cerci Speed Circuit faction, hence the green bases.

Equally small was Skully, also an Esper Master.  He's part of the Star Nebula Corsairs, hence the egg yolk yellow base.

The game is fun and you do not need a lot of minis.  I might have two small forces soon.
